Kithood:

Bumblestep was born as Bumblekit to Stonepath and Minnowheart alongside his sister Ebonykit. He has two older sisters from his parent's second litter,  Tumbletail and Cinderstripe. During his days in the nursery playing with his sister, but mostly liked to stay near his mother. His two older sisters would often visit him and entertain him and Ebonykit when Minnowheart fell ill.

Apprentice:

At 6 moons, Bumblekit was named Bumblepaw, and was apprenticed to Lightningtail. While she was a strict and harsh mentor, she wasn't cruel. She pushed Bumblepaw to make him the best warrior, despite his pacifistic nature. Early in his apprenticeship he lost his sister Tumbletail in a mysterious accident, causing him to resent fighting. Warrior:

At 13 moons, Bumblepaw was made into a warrior, and given the name Bumblestep. His sister was also made a warrior at the same time, named Ebonyheart. Despite this, his life remained relatively unchanged. Bumblestep preferred  to stay in the camp and help take care of the young kits.

At 28 moons Bumblestep met Kestrelwing, a grumpy yet powerful warrior of Riverclan. The two initially clashed over their different ideals of how Sootstar should have handled conflict with the other clans. Kestrelwing believed Sootstar handled the situation poorley, and that they should go on the offensive. Bumblestep believed Sootstar handled the situation correctly. Their conflict lasted a few moons before they were able to resolve their differences. Bumblestep was present for the announcement of Kestrelwing becoming leader and Splashleap becoming deputy.

Around this time, Bumblestep met Stormtalon, a closed off warrior of Riverclan who needed some advice. The two bonded over stories about their siblings, and soon became close. Whenever Stormtalon found himself stumped when it came to bonding with his brother, it was Bumblestep he went to. When Bumblestep needed reassurance, he went to Stormtalon. Bumble had fallen for Storm. Unfortunately, due to rising conflicts between Riverclan and Thunderclan... moral differences between the two toms were unveiled. After the battle, they both went their separate ways.

Due to the rising conflicts between Riverclan and Thunderclan, Bumblestep fled Riverclan. Originally intending to return within a few days, he has stayed in a field far away from the territory, too ashamed and scared to return.
